I really liked the other two American Grudge movies, so when I heard about this one I wanted to see it pretty bad. Finding out that it was Stright-to-DVD did not hurt that want at all, finding out it was going to be the first of the American Grudge movies to be rated R made me want to see it more. Well I got a copy of the movie a few days ago and watched it last nite. First off I have to say that I really don't see why this one got the R rating. We get a really quick shot of a naked girl getting pulled into a bathtub, most of the kills are off screen, and when we get the see the aftermath its not that bad.
Am I alone with wanting to see more on screen kills? We do get eight real time kills, and three flashback kills, so the kill count ain't that bad at eleven, but only haveing two kills that stick out as cool does hurt it just a little. The two kills I liked best seemed to be liked best by the other people that was watching it with me too. If they spent more time filming good stong kills, and not bad acting and weak story then this one would be right up there with the other two for me. The thing is with that is the other two movies was PG-13 and had better kills than the R rated movie, and thats just sad.
The story was so-so and picked up where part 2 left off, it just seemed to be missing something, and in some parts got really boring. The one thing that hurt this movie more than anything for me has that I really did not care for any of the characters, but the ghosts Toshio and Kayako. They added a few things to the Grudge history that I like, but can't talk about here cause I don't want to spoil anything for anyone.
If you liked any of the other Grudge movies then pick this one up only if your a die hard horror fan, everyone else just rent it. I give The Grudge 3 a 4.5 out of 10.
